My Name is Dalma Hutchinson. I'm 24 years old and a mother of 3 living on the Central Coast in Australia. Last year my teenage stepdaughter wanted a set of Pink Hair Straighteners more than anything. Not just any hair straighteners, but GHD. How expensive could they be ? I agreed to get her a set - surely I'd get change out of $200 .... or so I thought. Shopping day came and also the day of truth. $340.00 .... ?!?!?!?
Well I was gobsmacked.
There was no way I was going to pay that kind of money. My daughter Georgie was just going to have to settle for something cheaper. So we went on a mission looking for high quality "pink" hair straighteners that could muster up to the 210 degrees and quality of the GHD hair straighteners. After several days of marching around shops, cruising the internet and asking friends and family, everyone had the same idea. If you want a set of good hair straighteners, especially pink ones, you're going to have to fork out your cash in a big way. Well Bugger That. Georgie was going to get her straighteners one way or another, so a plan was hatched. We were going to build our own, especially for Georgie. I tried to think of quite a few names for the product (my ideas were pretty miserable), and as quick as a flash Georgie says "How about ThinkPink" ... Well it stuck.
In the following months we learned how to find factories, ask the right questions about molds, colours, ceramics, heating elements and negative ION generation.
After months of going through more factories and samples than you can shake a stick at, we finally decided on the perfect combination of materials and build quality.
With some help from hairdresser family & friends and a generous loan from my mother-in-law, ThinkPink from OzHead was born.
What we have achieved is a product that I truly believe will excite everyone who uses hair straighteners. I also think that anyone who has used GHD will find ours at least as good as GHD if not better.
What's also going to appeal to the straightening population (and beholden mothers of teenage girls) is that our price tag is a sensible $199 with an 18 month replacement warranty. I am so proud of what we have accomplished as a family.
They have stood by me through all the trials and tribulations of getting my business off the ground, and now I am ready to take our home grown "Aussie" product out to the market.
Here's to a truly good hair day Australia and OzHead.
